Sound Waves: Music in Newham is a 76-page publication exploring six decades of the borough’s music history through the lens of its venues — from youth clubs and community halls to pubs, sound systems and nightclubs.

Made possible with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the book brings together photographs, oral histories and archive material that chart the people and places which shaped Newham’s musical life.

Featuring stories from those who played, danced and organised events across the borough, Sound Waves captures how local spaces became vital to the evolution of soul, reggae, punk, jungle, hip hop and more.

The book is designed by Claire Mason, Flush Left and printed at Angel Press.
