On 2 July 2025, Stratford Town Hall was filled with music, energy, and celebration as young people aged 8–16 took to the stage for the Write a Song Showcase.

As part of the Write a Song project, Newham Music worked with schools across the borough to write original songs that reflect local culture, heritage and community history. Students drew inspiration from Rendezvous Projects’ Sound Waves: Music in Newham, exploring archive material and the history of local music venues to create brand new songs of their own.

The showcase featured performances by Newham school choirs and Studio Sessions students, alongside a special guest appearance from Dhol Academy.

It was an uplifting and joyful event, with the young performers bringing Newham’s music history to life in their own voices and sharing their creativity with friends, family and the project team.

This event was made possible with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
